I'm a freelance writer for Workopolis. Careers By Design has kindly and promptly contributed excellent career and networking advice for pieces I have written over the years. She's the first person I think of when I need expert career advice. Thanks Shirin and team!

I went for coaching when I was thinking about going back to school. Doing an MBA is a big investment and I wanted to make sure that I was making the right decision. My coach helped me to feel confident about my decision and write a strong application. She helped me to describe my technical experience in easy to understand language. I got into the program of my choice at the top business school in Canada and also received a scholarship.
After graduating, I went back for coaching and did the job search program. I wanted a job where I could use my skills and get paid well. It saved me a lot of time and effort- I didn’t have to figure it all out myself. Coaching is an investment that I decided to make in my career. I've been very satisfied with this service and felt that they really cared about my success.

I recently completed a Master's to complement my skills and work experience. Before I started the coaching sessions, I was having difficulty integrating my old skills with my new skills. This made it difficult to prepare a cohesive statement on what I had to offer, and as such what I should include on a CV. My coach, Lee, helped me put together a narrative that explains who I am as a person and a professional, and why people should be confident in what I have to offer. Being able to attend my coaching sessions by Skype was an extra bonus.

I worked with Lee over the course of several months when going through a career change. I enjoyed her insight and found the Skills & Values assessment to be very insightful. I learned about aspects of a career that was of high value to me and Lee and I worked together to 'match up' these values and my skill set to my next career. I would highly recommend anyone looking for some guidance in their careers to call Lee!

After 10 years in my line of work, I wanted to be strategic about planning the next steps. The idea of change was daunting and I was faced with uncertainty. The nature of my career path is unique and I needed a specific brand of guidance to move forward. Careers By Design's approach stands out by customizing their services to each person and their career stage. Working with my career counsellor, I received empathy and the encouragement I required to move forward from someone who had gone through similar challenges. Learning to practice mindfulness and working from the inside out reduced my stress and I was able to make better decisions. I also liked the flexibility to meet with my counsellor either in person or via Skype, both worked very well. I recommend Careers By Design to anyone who is serious about making a positive change in their career by being prepared to get in touch with themselves, overcoming barriers and committing to achieving success.
